Summer is here and you will want to take the kids somwhere outdoors to enjoy the fine weather.

Gigantic has some great events that the whole family will enjoy and make the hot summer days truly special.

 

Gloworm Festival

Taking place at Clumber Park near Worksop, Gloworm Festival is a dedicated two-day event crafted especially for children. Everyone is invited to take part in the music art and entertainment with all the rides and workshops included in the admission costs. Guest appearences include Mr Bloom and Dick & Dom whilst great bands like Toploader will also be performing.

Attendees are invited to camp at the idyllic grounds or can stay at one of the many nearby holiday homes.

Wilderness

Sublime festival Wilderness is committed to showing families the wonder of the natual wildlife. Located in the beautiful rural Oxfordshire countryside, Wilderness offers a number of luxery activites for children including Mr Peek’s Fun Time Poetry Workshops, Drop-In Puppet Making Origami, Christian Lee’s Magic Show, Hula Hooping, hand painting and so much more!

The festival also offers a fantastic range of music, from huge stars Robert Plant and The Flaming Lips to up and coming great such as Crystal Fighters and Lianne La Havas.

Madness

Ultimate ska band and national treasures Madness present their House Of Common which draws together a wealth of musical talent including seminal Jamaican band Toots And The Maytals, reggae DJ David Rodigan, The Hot 8 Brass Band, Lee Scratch Perry and a whole list of others.

There will also be plenty of action for the kids with the House Of Fun housing a children’s disco, a Nikelodeon JR live show and family friendly stand up comedians plus an outside play garden.

OnBlackheath

Blackheath Common festival OnBlackheath has a great line-up including Primal Scream, Belle & Sebastian, James and Hot Chip.

Not only does the festival include great music, children will love Puffin Books World Of Stories which brings the tales of Peter Rabbit, The Clangers and more to life. The festival also includes outdoor activities like the Talking Maze, guest appearances from Spot The Dog plus many other arts and crafts activities to get involved in.

Shrewsbury Folk Festival

Not only does Shrewsbury Folk Festival offer the best in traditional music and dance, they also put on the now infamous Refolkus event aimed especially at younger festival goers. Learn about the eastern art of Mehndi and practice creating your very own henna tattoos, develop your skills as an acrobat with the Organised Kaos Youth Circus and try out high energy Taiko drumming from Japan.

Refolkus fuses the contemporary with the traditional teaching younger audiences how to rap, sing in the super choir and join in with the big band.

Great Food And Drink Festival

The Great Food And Drink Festival unites your favourite celebrity chefs into a fantastic event. Expect to see such gastric genius as Simon Rimmer, Dean Edwards, Aldo Zilli and Gregg Wallace amongst the many highlights, food stalls and cooking demonstrations.

It takes place at Newstead Abbey, Ravenshead, from Saturday 27th until Monday 29th of August before relocating to Calke Abbey at Derby on Saturday 3rd till Sunday 4th of September.
