Seth Lakeman, Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury - 2nd March 2019

Seth Lakeman was great again and Carus Thompson who was supporting him was a very good preformer.

Seth Lakeman, Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury - 2nd March 2019

Great music with Salisbury Cathedral providing a brilliant venue. One downside was an inexcusable charge for collecting tickets from a box office manned by Cathedral volunteer staff. Gigantic or Salisbury City Hall who printed the tickets should be ashamed of themselves and donate this fee to the Cathedral and not charge in the future.

Seth Lakeman, Salisbury Cathedral, Salisbury - 2nd March 2019

Seth & the band gave a stunning performance a mix of old and new tunes. This coupled with the magnificent setting of Salisbury Cathedral made a truly wonderful evening.

Seth Lakeman is one of the country’s most highly acclaimed young folk musicians. The West Country singer is a multi-instrumentalist who typically plays the fiddle and tenor guitar, but is no stranger to the viola or banjo either.

…harks back to folk music’s primary purpose…” - Q

To date he has recorded eight incredible studio albums including his latest which broke the Top 20 and is entitled Ballads Of The Broken Few. He promoted the new material with an extensive tour.

This year sees him perform at Salisbury Cathedral, De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill, Southwell Minster and Hereford Cathedral during March 2019.

Plus, you can see him at Ireby Festival 2019, taking place at Wigton on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th.

Seth Lakeman grew up in a musical family and formed a folk band with his brothers Sean and Sam Lakeman. The trio released the album Three Piece Suite in 1994 before touring Portugal with the Yorkshire based singles Kathryn Roberts and Kate Rusby.

Finding that the pair worked well with the brothers, the five musicians formed a group called Equation and quickly signed to Time Warner. The bands career lasted from 1995 until 2001 and saw them produce three albums; Return to Me (1996), Hazy Daze (1998) and The Lucky Few (2000). Seth also worked on his brother’s solo album which won two awards at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Seth struck out as a solo artist in 2002 with the release of the first of many excellent albums titled The Punch Bowl. Other standout records include the 2005 release Kitty Jay which saw the singer received a Mercury Music Prize nomination and the 2006 album Freedom Fields which featured the singles The White Hare and Lady Of The Sea and went gold. 2014 saw the release of his amazing Word Of Mouth album. Recorded in a church in East Cornwall, the songs tell the everyday real-life stories of the folk from the region. The stories resonate especially well due to Seth being a local lad himself. The record won Best Album in the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
