Last time at Don Valley was special, let’s make this even better. Roll up, roll up.

Long-term friends Joe Green, Tom Rowley and Louis Carnall had been playing footy together for many years before they decided to form a band. Joe had his sights set on drums whilst Tom and Louis both wanted to play guitar, drafting in Joe Carnall (Louis’ younger brother) to play bass and sing. Inspired by their hometown Sheffield and their obsession with football, they recorded the three-track demo Steel Town in 2001, containing the songs "Steel Town", "High & Dry" and "Tommy".

Playing gigs around Yorkshire and the surrounding north, they would sell out two shows at the Boardwalk and ventured down to London where they would impress at The Garage. They would self-release limited singles "Lipstick Lickin" and "Showroom" on their own label Free Construction before being snapped up by major label Mercury Records. They released Top 40 debut album Well Well Well
in 2006.

Milburn returned with their second record These Are The Facts a year later. Now commanding a sizable fanbase, the sophomore album was promoted by a UK tour in September 2007, followed by another during November. Wishing to pursue other musical avenues, the friends decided to split the band in 2008, signalling the end with expected final shows at ABC Glasgow and Sheffield's Carling Academy in May.

The boys would reunite in 2016 to celebrate the tenth anniversary Well Well Well. Initially just playing four shows at the O2 Academy Sheffield, they would go on to play an autumn tour thanks to the huge reception from fans welcoming their return. Milburn would team up with Bill Ryder-Jones to write and record the double A-side "Midnight Control / Forming of a Fate". They would stick with the renowned producer to create their third and final LP Time, released the following year.

In 2021, they played together for what was expected to be a final performance at Don Valley Bowl to mark fifteen years since the release of their debut album. Now, they return to Sheffield for the Rock N Roll Circus! The big top comes to the Steel City on Saturday 31st of August where Milburn will play a very special one-off show.

Support comes from an impressive array of artists chosen by the band, including Jake Bugg. The Nottingham-born singer/songwriter has drawn parallels with Bob Dylan and Donovan with his huge anthems “Lightning Bolt” and “Two Fingers” as heard on his No. 1 self-titled debut album.

Milburn have also handpicked such essential acts as ska legends The Selecter, Chingford indie rockers The Rifles, rowdy Manc loudmouth Seb Lowe and rising star Gia Ford – with even more yet to be announced!

Don Valley has a special place in our hearts and to return at the top of a bill which has so many great artists on it, is an honour.

Last time we performed at Don Valley it was really wet, so we’re chuffed that we’ve got a big top to play in this time. But not even the great British weather can stop this being the crowning glory for a band who have a place in so many people’s hearts. Roll up, roll up!” – Joe Carnall

BRIT Award-winning dance singer Becky Hill will also be joining the Rock N Roll Circus. She is supported by Cian Durcot, Joel Corry, Issey Cross, Talia Mar, ADMT plus more. Playing Don Valley Bowl on Friday 30th of August – tickets are already on sale with Gigantic HERE.
