Embrace are anthemic indie-rock stalwarts from Bailiff Bridge, West Yorkshire, whose heartfelt songs and sweeping choruses have made them one of Britain’s most enduring bands. Formed in 1990 by brothers Danny McNamara (lead vocals, acoustic guitar) and Richard McNamara (lead guitar), the line-up now also features Mickey Dale (keys, backing vocals), Steve Firth (bass) and Mike Heaton (drums). With their soaring melodies and emotionally charged lyrics, Embrace rose to prominence in the late 1990s, quickly becoming known for uniting stadium-sized sound with down-to-earth sincerity.
Their debut album The Good Will Out (1998) became a landmark of British indie, spawning classics such as “All You Good Good People” and “Come Back to What You Know.” Follow-up albums Drawn from Memory (2000) and Out of Nothing (2004) further cemented their reputation, the latter featuring the fan-favourite “Gravity.” Over the decades, Embrace have released eight acclaimed studio albums — including Love Is a Basic Need (2018) and How to Be a Person Like Other People (2022) — maintaining their distinctive blend of hope, introspection and anthemic power. Known for their uplifting live performances and enduring bond with fans, Embrace continue to embody the heart and spirit of British rock.
