Garbage are a transatlantic alt-rock powerhouse whose fusion of gritty rock, electronica and pop sensibilities has made them one of the most distinctive and influential bands of the past three decades. Formed in 1993, the group brings together the formidable talents of Shirley Manson (vocals), Duke Erikson (guitar, bass, keys), Steve Marker (guitar, keys) and renowned producer Butch Vig (drums). Their eponymous debut album Garbage became a global sensation, selling over four million copies and earning double-platinum status, thanks to era-defining singles like “Stupid Girl”, “Only Happy When It Rains” and “Vow”. Their dark, stylish blend of alt-rock angst and sleek electronic layers helped pave the way for a new, genre-fluid wave of rock music.
Their success surged onward with Version 2.0 (1998), another platinum-certified triumph featuring hits such as “Push It” and “I Think I’m Paranoid”, confirming their place as international alternative icons. Subsequent albums — including Beautiful Garbage (2001), Bleed Like Me (2005), Not Your Kind of People (2012), Strange Little Birds (2016) and No Gods No Masters (2021) — showcased a band unafraid to evolve while staying true to their emotive, high-gloss edge. With more than 17 million albums sold worldwide and a legacy built on experimentation, attitude and unforgettable hooks, Garbage continue to be one of alt-rock’s most enduring and innovative forces.
