Sparks
Genre-bending art-pop full of wit
Sparks have just announced a very special show at Royal Hospital Chelsea!
Since emerging from Los Angeles in the early seventies, Sparks, brothers Ron and Russell Mael have crafted a catalogue that blends glam-rock, new wave, synth-pop and theatrical avant-garde flair, always with clever lyricism and a mischievous sense of humour. Their breakthrough came with the flamboyant Kimono My House (1974), featuring the hit “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us”, a song that introduced their distinctive blend of dramatic vocals and quirky, angular arrangements.
On stage, Sparks are a magnetic combination of Russell’s charismatic, high-energy performance and Ron’s deadpan presence at the keyboard - a duo dynamic that has become legendary in its own right.
