About Ruthie Foster

Ruthie Foster is a Texan singer-songwriter whose voice carries the warmth of gospel, the grit of the blues and the heart of folk and soul. Raised in Gause, Texas, in a family of gospel singers, she sang in church as a child before joining the US Navy, where she performed with the Navy band. Her self-released debut, Full Circle (1997), set her on a path that would make her one of contemporary blues' most beloved voices, with a sound so rich she is often compared to Aretha Franklin and Bonnie Raitt.

After several Grammy nominations over the years, Foster took home her first award in 2025, winning Best Contemporary Blues Album for Mileage (2024) — also the first Grammy ever won by an album on the legendary Sun Records label. A multiple Blues Music Award winner and a 2019 inductee into the Texas Music Hall of Fame, she has shared stages and studios with Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks and Larkin Poe, and performed alongside the Allman Brothers Band. UK audiences have caught her at the Cambridge Folk Festival, where her soul-stirring live shows leave nobody in the room untouched.
