Additional information

Lots of us have memories of going ‘Down The Marshes'. Join us in the new Central Library on Carrington Street to discover more about the history of The Marshes with local historian Chris Weir. His illustrated talk recalls early days in Broad Marsh and Narrow Marsh, highlighting where people worked, what living conditions were like and remembering some of the local characters. He will also look at how the Broad Marsh redeveloped into a transport hub and shopping centre with a Wimpy and a flagship Co-op store, as well as a working waterwheel and the wooden caterpillars!

Today we see yet another Broad Marsh evolving, with the retail centre gone and a new landscape emerging, The Marshes continue to be a distinct part of Nottingham.

The talk is taking place on Floor 1 and booking is essential. Drinks can be purchased at the cafe inside Nottingham Central Library.

The Marsh Forum is a partnership between Nottingham Local Studies Library, Nottinghamshire Local History Association, Nottingham Civic Society and The Thoroton Society. This is the first of a regular programme of talks throughout the year.
