We love to discover the records that inspire and excite people, and we are very lucky to have Maddy Chamberlain from Phlexx Records take some time out to tell us all about her top choice for My Favourite Album.

Maddy works in A&R and Publishing for the Nottingham based independent label, which is renowned for its excellent taste in showcasing the truly alternative and giving a platform for rising stars from a wide sphere of sound; signing everything from experimental electronica acts to psyche rock bands, folk singers, dream pop groups and more.

While the lockdown might have put gigs and festivals on hold for now, Maddy and the rest of Phlexx have continued to keep the party going through many innovative online events on Phlexx FM, which features guest shows, live music, poetry and discussions. Make sure you download the Mixlr app and start following them to enjoy their incredible output.

OutKast – ‘Speakerboxx / The Love Below

When Is It From?

2003

Where Did You First Hear It?

My mom bought it when it first came out, so I would have been 8! She used to play it on repeat around the house, in the car, was pretty much on all the time!

What Does It Mean To You?

I have so many great memories associated with this album, so it just never fails to cheer me up and give me some sass if I need a boost.

I forgot about it for a few years and picked up again when I was at university and it never failed to get me motivated and again recently with all this going on!

Favourite Songs On The Album

It’s so hard to pick just a couple because the whole album is full of absolute bops, there’s 40 tracks!

But gun to my head I’d have to go with:

  • Unhappy
  • She Lives In My Lap
  • Happy Valentines Day
