Bess Atwell announces Cut a Figure and 2027 UK tour

Last updated: October 2026. Bess Atwell has quietly established herself as a compelling voice in contemporary indie-folk. Blending her vocals, which The Independent described as having a ‘crystalline quality’, with intimate storytelling and atmospheric instrumentation, Atwell creates music that feels deeply personal yet universally relatable. Following the critical acclaim of her 2024 album Light Sleeper, she's preparing to enter a new chapter with Cut a Figure, her forthcoming fourth studio album, due in February 2027. She heads out on the Cut A Figure UK Tour in April 2027, with dates in Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham and Bristol.

Finding beauty in the bittersweet: From Brighton beginnings to indie-folk acclaim

Bess Atwell's music has always been rooted in honesty. Emerging from Brighton's vibrant independent music scene, the British singer-songwriter has developed a distinctive sound built around delicate melodies, expressive vocals and lyrics that explore the complicated realities of being human. Her debut album, Hold Your Mind (2016), introduced listeners to her thoughtful songwriting, and her signature sound was then expanded on with Already, Always (2021), which also helped grow her audience.

Her 2024 album, Light Sleeper, produced by Aaron Dessner (who is known for his work with The National and Taylor Swift), further expanded her sound with atmospheric arrangements while retaining her intimate storytelling. Exploring heartbreak, family and self-discovery, Atwell's music continued to reach new audiences through tours across the UK, Europe, Australia and North America.

Now, Atwell is preparing to release Cut a Figure. Lead single "The Act" offers a first glimpse of this new chapter, exploring personal experiences and a fresh perspective on her own life.

Upcoming Album: Cut a Figure

Bess Atwell will be adding another string to her sonic bow with Cut a Figure, building on her previous records whilst continuing to evolve as a songwriter.

A spontaneous move to Canada helped inspire the record. The experience gave her space to reflect on her relationships, decisions and motivations, ultimately informing some of the album's most personal material. Produced by Chris Coady, whose credits include Beach House, Slowdive, Future Islands, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Foals, Cut a Figure was recorded over three weeks at his studio in Glendale, California, her longest ever stint in a studio. Beth has even said that “I like to joke that this album has ‘diss tracks’ on it, because I’m not someone you’d describe as an angry person, but there’s some of that on this record”. Where Light Sleeper explored emotional complexity through atmospheric arrangements and carefully observed storytelling, Cut a Figure turns the focus more directly towards Atwell herself. The record examines how she understands her own behaviour and how her relationship with difficult emotions, particularly anger, has evolved. The first taste of the new record arrived with "The Act", an 80s pop-inspired single written about Atwell's time living in Quebec. It marks her first new release in two years and introduces listeners to the perspective behind this next phase of her career.

Bess Atwell Live: What to Expect

Bess Atwell's live performances are an invitation to slow down and pay attention. Her music doesn't rely on bombast or spectacle; instead, its power comes from the strength of the songwriting, the detail in the arrangements and the connection between performer and audience, in what feels like a deeply intimate sharing of observations and feelings between friends, even at a gig. On record, Atwell's expressive vocals sit among layers of guitar, keys and atmospheric instrumentation. Live, these arrangements give her songs room to breathe, allowing quieter passages and emotional turns to take centre stage. She has also expressed that, live, she enjoys the freedom she finds in performing songs without accompanying herself on an instrument, allowing her to concentrate fully on the vocal and the emotional meaning of the words.
