"Probs best band I've seen this year"
Verified purchase

Goat, O2 Academy Brixton, London - 29th July 2017

Second time I've seen this lot except last time I couldn't actually see them, as the last time I got in very late and every vantage point was taken(lesson get to the Coronet E&C early) Brixton Academy no such problem. Totally captivating ride of a show , almost primal at some points, would love to see them some where out side at sunrise and no I'm not a hippy.
Only gripe the bar running out of larger after queuing ! on a Saturday night really..........

Goat are an alternative music collective. They are an experimental outfit which are shrouded in mystery as they weave they spell to entice and enrapture the entire world.

The Swedish band claim to have originally come from the town of Korpilombolo where they say the area is rife with voodoo activity after a witch doctor came to dwell in the area. The witch doctor was vanquished when pursued by Christian crusaders who raised the town to the ground and scattered the villages into the surrounding countryside. They also say this has now left the entire area forever cursed.

According to the band, they began playing music there whilst children in accordance with the local traditions as they are only the latest incarnation of Goat which, in fact, has actually been recording for 40 years. The band is comprised of three core members from Korpilombolo who, apart from Christian Johansson, have continued to remain anonymous. They are joined by additional four performers from Gothenburg when playing live.

Their debut album World Music was released in 2012. It came out through Rocket Recordings and entered the Swedish Album Chart at #8. The record prompted The Guardian to declare it as one of the best albums of 2012. Its trance like music, the band say, is a reflection of music played by generations that have followed the fall of Korpilombolo.

In 2013 they released the album Live Ballroom Ritual which featured live performances of the band. It was scored as 8/10 by The Line Of Best Fit who said “Live Ballroom Ritual, then, is a rare example of a genuinely essential live album”.

Their latest album Commune was released in 2014 through ace alternative label Sub Pop. Goat returned to Korpilombolo to work on the new material before relocating to New York to record the album. A massive success, it was featured in both Gigwise and NME’s Top 50 album listings in its year of release.

Goat will be performing at O2 Academy Brixton in London on Saturday 29th of July, 2017.
