About Dexys

Dexys (Dexys Midnight Runners) perform a Glastonbury warm-up show at London's Roundhouse on Friday 27th June! Book your Dexys tickets with Gigantic.

The band are renowned for their success in the 1980s with such tracks as 'Come On Eileen' and 'Geno'. Their career began with the release of their first albums 'Searching for the Young Soul Rebels' (1980) and 'Too-Rye-Ay', which epitomised the band's early soul/folk sound, but when their third album 'Don't Stand Me Down' presented a new look cracks in the band began to form dooming the album to failure and resulting in the demise of the band.

Frontman Kevin Rowland's plagued solo career during 1986 - 1999 saw an album that was planned to include Dexys Midnight Runners fall by the wayside and dampened hopes of reunion. However, in 2003 a sextet version of the band with a shortened name (Dexys) announced they would be creating a greatest hits album and tour. The reunion drummed up media attention and the group began working on new music following the 2003 tour. In 2005 Rowland revealed Dexys were working on new material, but it wasn't until 2012, a whole 27 years since Dexys last album that the fittingly titled album 'One Day I'm Going to Soar' was released into the world. Appearances on Later...with Jools Holland and UK tours followed bringing the band back from the brink and rising them back into the stardom of their '80s years.
