Babyshambles are an English indie-rock band formed in London in 2003 by Pete Doherty during a hiatus from The Libertines. Known for their raw energy and poetic edge, the band’s original lineup included Mick Whitnall (lead guitar), Drew McConnell (bass, backing vocals), Patrick Walden (lead guitar) and Adam Ficek (drums). Their debut album, Down in Albion (2005), produced by Mick Jones, entered the UK Albums Chart Top 10 and featured singles like “Fuck Forever” (UK No. 4) and “Killamangiro” (UK No. 8). They followed up with Shotter’s Nation (2007), released on Parlophone, earning generally favourable reviews.
On stage, Babyshambles developed a reputation for chaotic charisma, performing at major UK festivals and overseas—including the London Scala tour in 2004 and later shows across Europe and Glastonbury. After a hiatus that began in 2014, the band briefly reunited during a surprise set in August 2024 when Doherty invited former members on stage. Their legacy endures as a defining presence in Britain’s post-punk revival scene, celebrated for their gritty spirit and unabashed authenticity.
