Usted Nishat Khan: Evening and Night Ragas - Live
Nishat Khan is a singular figure in the realm of sitar playing. Torchbearer in a lineage of seven generations of sitarists, he transcends musical barriers with his innovative expression and spellbinding technical mastery. Nishat stands at the threshold of the future of sitar and Indian music with his uniquely invigorating and contemporary approach which has led to collaborations with John McLaughlin, Philip Glass, Paco Peña and Evelyn Glennie. Nishat Khan’s first concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall was in 1977, when he performed with his father, the late Ustad Imrat Khan with some of the eminent musicians of India including Pandit Ravi Shankar, Ustad Allah Rakha Khan and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan in attendance. Forty-four year on, Nishat looks to revisit those, and many other moments, when he has performed here.
