Tony Visconti: A Life in Music, Union Chapel, London, N1 2UN, London - 24th July 2017
it was absolutely incredible performance by all involved

A brilliant night that can be relived when it is broadcast on Sky Arts in the Autumn. Packed with new talent and some surprise celebrity appearances. Not wishing to spoil the mystery, but it's worth tuning in just to see Bob Geldof sing Rebel Rebel.
The Union Chapel is a fantastic and unique venue and was a perfect setting for a night of music representing the work of Tony Visconti.

Thank you very much indeed! I was able to get a ticket at face value (plus fees) just a couple of weeks before the show.
I can't say that much about the show, as we were asked not to give spoilers before its transmission in September on Sky Arts. But I can state: Tony Visconti on bass, Stewart Copeland on drums for a couple of songs; Nitin Sawnhey on a range of instruments, Imelda May on vocals for one song (which she had to perform twice for technical reasons); and Holy Holy at the end...
The performances were uniformly excellent (except for one, which didn't do it for me). Some special arrangements of great songs (mainly Bowie and Bolan), some very funny anecdotes and MCing from Tony Visconti. Really beautiful singing from undiscovered talent. Plus some great emerging musicians with very individual styles.
So many of the songs were in new arrangements. Almost all of them worked, even when they were radically different from the jukebox classics with which we are so familiar.
My two favourites were Ashes to Ashes (without words) and Life on Mars. Earlier this year, I saw Life on Mars performed by David Bowie's touring band (plus Adrian Belew) and a string section. That was great. But last night's version matched it!
Thanks again to everyone involved for a really wonderful evening - and the very reasonable ticket price!

Feel fortunate to have been present at an amazing show! A mix of legends and great new artists. Can't wait to see the show again on Sky Arts channel in the Autumn.
