Tom Hingley is a British singer-songwriter best known as the frontman of Inspiral Carpets, one of the defining bands of the Madchester and late-’80s indie scene. Joining the group in (1989), his distinctive voice became central to their most successful period, helping propel the band to widespread recognition with a run of charting singles and albums. His delivery combined clarity, warmth and conviction, perfectly suited to the band’s swirling keyboards and driving rhythms.
Beyond Inspiral Carpets, Hingley has maintained a long-standing solo career, releasing a body of work that leans into folk, acoustic and roots-influenced songwriting. His solo material reflects a more intimate, reflective side of his craft, shaped by thoughtful lyrics and understated arrangements. Alongside recording, he remains a respected live performer, continuing to connect with audiences through both his solo shows and performances celebrating the legacy of Inspiral Carpets.
