The Get Up Kids are emo trailblazers who helped shape the sound of late '90s and early 2000s alternative rock. Formed in 1995 in Kansas City, the band quickly gained a cult following with their blend of heartfelt lyrics, driving guitars, and infectious melodies. Their breakthrough second album, Something to Write Home About (1999), became a defining record of the emo movement, featuring anthems like "Ten Minutes" and "Action & Action."
Beyond their early emo roots, The Get Up Kids continued to evolve, incorporating indie and power-pop influences into later releases like On a Wire (2002) and Guilt Show (2004). After a hiatus, they returned with There Are Rules (2011) and Problems (2019), proving their staying power and willingness to experiment.
Known for their raw, high-energy performances, The Get Up Kids remain an essential band in the alternative rock landscape, influencing generations of musicians while staying true to their emotionally charged songwriting.
