Hi Gigantic Gang,

Guess what? Not only is it the weekend you’ve been begging for ever since Monday, we are back with your recommended weekly dose of #NewMusicFriday – a huge playlist dripping with fresh tune goodness setting you up for the good times.

We also take a good long look at second Snail Mail LP Valentine ahead of her headline dates in support of her essential record release.

Take it easy, look after each other and we’ll keep bringing you the big bangers xx

Snail MailValentine

Following on from 2018’s lauded breakthrough first record Lush; indie rock songwriter Lindsey Jordan AKA Snail Mail makes her welcome return with stunning second helping Valentine – a confessional album which reveals real romance and subsequent heartbreaks and headaches before the healing.

Entirely written and produced by Lindsey herself and co-produced by Brad Cook (Bon Iver, Waxahatchee), it’s hard to believe the young prodigy was still only in her mid-teens when she dropped her debut album as her second is slick, both in terms of songs and sound. The ten tracks contained will guarantee you’ll see Snail Mail on plenty of album of the year polls.

Check out lead single “Valentine”, which serves to set the tone as the opening song by combining tender verses with brash riffs accompanying an anthemic chorus. It’s a bold return for a young star eager to remind us of her continued ascent. Also check out delightfully dark second single “Ben Franklin” and its melodramatic take on alt pop, the wistful and weary “Forever (Sailing)” plus emotional ender “Mia” which glides perfectly on the right side of melancholia and melodrama.

I think all the stages of grief are represented in the record. It’s super dramatic. I love the way the actual ending is very cinematic. And I paid a lot of attention to the way each song ended and the next one began
