About Midrift

Midrift are a young, rising shoegaze / alternative-rock band based in California, consisting of siblings Manoa Neukermans and Kai Neukermans alongside vocalist and guitarist Gus Mehrkam. Their music blends atmospheric, dreamy textures with emotional intensity and post-hardcore power — a sound that draws on influences from bands like Deftones, Title Fight, Whirr and The Smashing Pumpkins. Their self-titled debut EP released in 2022 quickly caught fire, and tracks such as “Twin Flames” and “Machina” helped the group grow a dedicated fanbase thanks to their sweeping guitars and emotionally resonant vocals. 

Since then, Midrift have continued to evolve, releasing follow-up EPs and singles that expand their sonic palette while staying true to their core of melody, mood and grit. They’ve toured widely across the U.S. and Europe, and their live shows have become known for their raw energy, immersive sound and deep connection with the audience — often mixing shoegaze dreaminess with rock-level intensity. 2025 marks one of their biggest years yet, with a major international tour and rising Spotify numbers, proving that despite their youth, Midrift are already forging a formidable name for themselves in the modern shoegaze and alternative rock scene.
