Maria Somerville is a Connemara-born Irish singer-songwriter whose music weaves folk traditions, ambient textures and dream-pop nuance into deeply evocative soundscapes. Her work draws on the rugged landscape of Ireland’s west coast, infusing songs with a sense of place and memory. Her debut album All My People (2019) introduced listeners to her ethereal voice and subtle instrumentation, characterised by lingering guitars, soft drones and a measured emotional resonance.
In April 2025 she released Luster, her first album on the esteemed indie label 4AD, recorded back in Connemara and steeped in explorations of homecoming, solitude and transformation. The album was met with critical acclaim and described by Pitchfork as “a wild and ancient landscape in which her own figure is just barely perceptible”. With its blend of shoegaze, ambient electronics, harp and field recordings, Luster stands as a striking evolution of her voice and vision—quiet yet expansive, intimate yet universal.
