Glasgow-born electro-rock forging dramatic riffs, synth atmosphere and powerful emotion.
Lo Rays are a Glasgow-based modern rock band fronted by Finnish singer-songwriter Laura Takala, with Ryan Jones (bass), Scott Bathgate (guitar/production) and Murray Bartle (drums) completing the line-up — a group born out of a shared love for punchy riffs, moody synth textures and emotionally charged lyrics. Formed in 2018 after Laura moved to Glasgow to make music, the band quickly found their footing by fusing heavy guitar work with glitchy, synth-driven hooks and powerful vocal melodies.
Since the release of their self-produced EP Algorithm Gods (2023), Lo Rays have begun turning heads across the UK rock scene. Their 2024 single “Freak” was named Track of the Week on BBC Introducing Scotland, and they were long-listed for the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition — underlining their growing reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting rising rock acts. On stage, they combine atmospheric visuals with high-voltage energy, bridging alternative rock, electro-rock and post-punk influences to create an immersive, cathartic live experience. With a bold vision and a growing catalogue of intense, modern rock songs, Lo Rays are definitely a band to watch.
