Jamie T is the Mercury-nominated Wimbledon songwriter whose ragged, story-packed anthems have made him one of British indie's best-loved live acts.
Jamie T grew up in Wimbledon, South London, writing songs on a battered acoustic bass and turning the characters he met in local pubs into vivid, fast-talking stories. His debut album, Panic Prevention (2007), captured that scrappy, restless energy, mixing hip-hop, ska, punk and folk into something wholly his own. It reached number four in the UK, earned a Mercury Prize nomination and went platinum, with singles such as "Sheila" and "Calm Down Dearest" becoming enduring indie favourites.
He built on that success with Kings & Queens (2009), which climbed to number two, followed by Carry On the Grudge (2014), Trick (2016) and The Theory of Whatever (2022). An early champion was Damon Albarn, who invited him to remix Gorillaz — a nod to the restless, genre-hopping spirit that runs through his work. Famed for his ragged wit and rowdy, singalong shows, Jamie T remains one of the most distinctive and fiercely loved voices in British indie.
