Happy Mondays are a legendary British band from Salford whose wild energy and genre-blending sound came to define the Madchester scene of the late 1980s and early ’90s. Fronted by the ever-charismatic Shaun Ryder and joined by iconic dancer and maraca shaker Bez, their fusion of indie rock, funk and dance music made them one of the most original and influential bands of their era. Their breakthrough came with Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches (1990), which delivered timeless anthems like “Step On” and “Kinky Afro” and captured the hedonistic spirit of a generation.
Their full catalogue includes Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) (1987), Bummed (1988), Pills ’n’ Thrills and Bellyaches (1990), Yes Please! (1992) and Uncle Dysfunktional (2007). Known for chaotic, unmissable live shows and a reputation for excess that matched their music’s intensity, the Happy Mondays remain a defining force in British alternative culture, influencing countless bands and continuing to draw devoted fans across the world.
