About British Lion

British Lion is a British rock band formed in 2012, led by Iron Maiden's bassist, Steve Harris. While Iron Maiden is known for its heavy metal legacy, British Lion offers a slightly different flavour of rock, focusing on a more straightforward, hard rock sound with elements of classic rock, 70s influences, and a slightly more melodic approach.

The band’s lineup includes Harris on bass, alongside vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists Grahame Leslie and David Hawkins, and drummer Simon Dawson. British Lion’s music is a mix of hard rock anthems and introspective ballads, with lyrics often reflecting on personal experiences, life stories, and themes of resilience and strength. While the sound remains hard-hitting, the band brings a level of accessibility and melodic richness that contrasts with the heavier, more complex compositions of Iron Maiden.

In 2012, British Lion released their self-titled debut album, which was well-received by fans of both classic and contemporary rock. Their sound incorporates elements of power rock and 80s arena rock, but with a fresh approach that sets them apart from the more traditional heavy metal of Harris’ primary band. The album featured tracks like "This Is My Life" and "A World Without Heaven," which reflect the band's musical journey and Harris' desire to explore a different sonic territory outside of Iron Maiden.

Though British Lion may not have reached the same commercial heights as Iron Maiden, the band continues to attract a loyal fanbase, particularly in the live music scene where their energetic performances and passionate delivery shine. The band’s continued presence in the rock scene demonstrates Harris’ versatility as a musician and his commitment to creating music that resonates with a different audience while still maintaining his signature sound.
