Tricky is a pioneering English producer, rapper and songwriter whose work has been central to the development of trip-hop and experimental music. Emerging from Bristol’s scene in the early 1990s, he first came to prominence with Massive Attack before striking out solo with Maxinquaye (1995), a Mercury Prize-nominated album hailed for its shadowy atmospheres and boundary-breaking sound. Tracks like “Hell Is Round the Corner” and “Black Steel” showcased his blend of hip-hop, soul, dub and electronica, layered with haunting vocal collaborations.
He has since built a singular body of work across albums including Pre-Millennium Tension (1996), Angels with Dirty Faces (1998), Vulnerable (2003), Adrian Thaws (2014), Ununiform (2017) and Fall to Pieces (2020). Tricky has toured globally, playing UK festivals such as Glastonbury, Meltdown and All Points East, and continues to influence artists across genres. His music remains uncompromising, atmospheric and deeply personal, making him one of the most distinctive voices in modern British music.
