The Cribs are a much-loved indie rock trio from Wakefield, made up of brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross Jarman. Bursting onto the scene in 2004 with their self-titled debut, they quickly earned a reputation for raw post-punk energy and sharp, anthemic songwriting. Their breakthrough came with Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever (2007), produced by Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos, which included fan favourites like “Men’s Needs.” A few years later, the band teamed up with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr for Ignore the Ignorant (2009), which became their first UK Top Ten album and expanded their jangly, melodic sound.
Since then, The Cribs have kept up a run of critically acclaimed records, from the Albini-produced 24-7 Rock Star Shit (2017) to Night Network (2020), an album they self-recorded in Los Angeles. Fiercely independent and adored for their down-to-earth spirit, the band remain a powerful live force. They’ve headlined Leeds’s Millennium Square, stormed festivals including Isle of Wight, Y Not and Rebellion, and in 2025 played Newcastle’s Come Together Festival and a huge homecoming set at Temple Newsam Park.
