About World News

World News are a four-piece indie post-punk/alternative rock band based in London whose atmospheric guitar-driven sound blends jangly riffs, moody melodies and nonchalant hooks. Formed originally in 2018 by brothers Alex and Rory Evans alongside drummer Malte Henning and later joined by rhythm guitarist Jack Tollman, they cut their teeth on the grassroots circuits of Brighton before solidifying their identity as World News with a DIY ethos that informs how they write, record and release music. Their sound draws on influences from ’70s and ’80s post-punk and indie rock, evoking a timeless, guitar-led aesthetic with an unpretentious, heartfelt edge.

Across several EPs including Job and Money (2020), Escape and Mindsnap (both 2024), the band has steadily built momentum with standout singles such as “Wrapped in Gold” and “Don’t Want To Know”. Their work has earned them recognition from outlets like Stereogum and The Fader, sold-out headlining shows in London and a growing international presence with festival appearances and European tour dates. Always rooted in a fiercely independent spirit, World News are steadily shaping a sound that feels both nostalgic and vibrant, appealing to fans of jangly indie rock and post-punk alike.
