Willi Carlisle is a folk artist from Arkansas whose music sits at the crossroads of honesty, humour, and hope. A poet and multi-instrumentalist, he channels the tradition of American folk through a fiercely modern lens, blending the grit of punk with the compassion of classic songwriting. His early albums To Tell You the Truth (2018) and Peculiar, Missouri (2022) introduced his signature mix of storytelling and social reflection, with standout tracks including “Cheap Cocaine”, “Tulsa’s Last Magician”, “Vanlife” and “What the Rocks Don’t Know”.
On his self-produced fourth studio album Winged Victory (2025), released via Signature Sounds, Carlisle continues his exploration of love, loss, and collective struggle. Building on themes from Peculiar, Missouri and Critterland (2024), he celebrates life’s imperfections through the voices of outcasts and dreamers, weaving raunchy humour, tenderness, and philosophy into his songs. Featuring covers such as Richard Thompson’s “Beeswing” alongside original compositions, Winged Victory reflects Carlisle’s belief that understanding our shared suffering brings us closer to freedom. With unflinching honesty and generous warmth, Willi Carlisle stands as one of folk’s most vital and compassionate voices.
