With over a billion hits on You Tube, and over 60 million albums worldwide, 5 going to number one in the UK, we couldn’t be more excited about Simply Red heading to Darlington Arena on Saturday 13th August, as part of their Summer 2022 tour.

Their 1991 classic “Stars” was the best-selling album for two years running in Britain and Europe. They have had two US Billboard chart toppers with classic singles “Holding Back The Years” and “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” - and every Simply Red studio album has been a UK top ten.

On his remarkable voice, Mick Hucknall says “I always want to push my voice a little harder, challenge it a little bit, give myself something to really sing to.” Hucknall has long since established himself as one of the great vocalists of contemporary music, with a raw honey and whiskey tone, and a sinuous flow that can shift from the tender sensuality to full on roaring power in a heartbeat. “It’s deepened a little bit but I’ve kept the high end, so I can still hit those notes. Singing is pure pleasure to me.”

Artist Bio

Formed in 1984, Simply Red are a British soul band that draw influences from reggae and jazz to make sublime pop music. Led by the iconic Mick Hucknall, Simply Red have enjoyed international adoration having penned some stunning tracks.

The band reached iconic status after the release of iconic album Stars, which took its title from the smash hit single, winning the band Best British Group at the Brit Awards for two consecutive years in 1992 and 1993.

The soul legends have enjoyed massive global success having sold 60 million albums, which include such fantastic names as Picture Book, Men And Woman, A New Flame, Life and Blue.

Exhausted after 25 years of staying at the top through continued hard work, Hucknall announced a final tour to be completed in 2010 and the band disbanded thereafter.

2014 marked the 30th Anniversary since the bands initial inception. And with it came the surprise announcement that Simply Red would once again reform and begin playing live again. Having been met with great excitement and playing standout shows they returned to the studio to begin recording once again culminating in their latest album release Big Love, which rode high in the UK album charts by achieving fourth place upon its release in 2015.
