San Quentin, a five-piece alternative rock band from Southend-on-Sea, burst onto the scene with a sound that’s equal parts rebellion and anthem. Their music, a defiant blend of indie rock, massive arena-ready hooks, and rousing riffs, speaks to their working-class roots and ambition to redefine musical storytelling. Formed in 2019 by cousins Liam Cass (guitarist/songwriter) and Owen Eves (vocalist), alongside drummer Luke Johns, bassist Nick Keep, and lead guitarist Dan Ridgwell, the band took their name from Johnny Cash’s At San Quentin, channeling its spirit of defiance and resilience into their identity.
In 2022, San Quentin’s rise hit new heights as they were named a BBC Introducing “One to Watch,” headlined a sold-out 400-capacity hometown show, and played major festivals such as Isle of Wight and Y Not, along with a debut European gig at Paris’ iconic Supersonic. With airplay from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, and Radio X, the momentum continues in 2024, with confirmed headline tours, more European dates, and appearances at top festivals. With their electrifying sound and unstoppable drive, San Quentin is carving out their place as a force to be reckoned with in the rock scene.
