Sam Shackleton (also known by his Gaelic moniker Sorley the Bard) is a Scottish singer-songwriter whose music draws deeply from the interconnected oral traditions of Scotland, Ireland and the United States. Born in Stirling and raised across the Borders and Highlands, his sound weaves old-time, country, folk and blues with a distinctly Scottish spirit. His debut album Causeway Recordings (2022) was entirely self-recorded in his Edinburgh flat and blends original songs with traditional influences, earning praise in folk circles for its honesty and craft. In addition, his Scottish Folk Ballads of Freedom EP reflects his dedication to preserving and reimagining historical Scottish songs.
On stage, Sam delivers deeply personal performances often focused on storytelling, connecting directly with audiences intimately and in folk settings. His evolving work continues to stand at the meeting point of tradition and innovation, rooted in folklore yet unafraid to explore new ground.
