Saint Etienne, SWX, Bristol - 8th December 2017

Good gig - a welcome blast down memory lane - with some welcome new tracks from St Etienne. Occasionally hit sublime highs - with tracks such as Who Do You Think You Are. The band were on good form, and the set list was a good selection from their extensive back catalogue. Star deducted as the sound was a bit muddy for the first few songs, and Sarah’s voice was too low in the mix - the sound guys sorted it and the sound pretty good did the remainder.

Probably one of the best gigs I’ve ever been to. They were absolutely on fire, an eight piece line up which managed to keep the quirky electronic magic of their recorded output whilst blowing the room away with a live performance like I’ve never seen before. Razor sharp, tight and the most incredible drummer in town. Phenomenal performance!

Wonderful stuff.” - BBC Music

While Saint Etienne will always sound like Saint Etienne, these songs are their sharpest in over a decade.” - NME

Words and Music, the first full studio album in an aeon from Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs, is a masterclass of pop theory and practice in perfect harmony.” - The Independent On Sunday

They release their brand new album Home Counties this summer. The exciting new record is their first album release for five years and examines the change in British identity and how the people now relate to one another.

We are all from there and I am interested in how the whole of Britain feels odd. The lyrical inspiration was Brexit, going to towns like Amersham during the referendum campaign which had Leave posters everywhere, then coming back to London where it’s completely different. You think ‘this feels really odd’.” - Bob Stanley
