Rodney Crowell is a Houston-born songwriter and performer whose impact on country and Americana music stretches over five decades. Raised in a musical family in Texas, he began playing in his father’s band at the age of eleven and by the early seventies he was writing for the likes of Emmylou Harris, having already joined her Hot Band as guitarist and singer.
His breakthrough as a solo artist came with the album Diamonds & Dirt (1988), which spawned five consecutive number-one country singles—including “After All This Time” which earned him a Grammy. Beyond his chart-success he’s widely respected for his lyricism and versatility—his songs have been recorded by a wide range of artists from Waylon Jennings to Keith Urban, and he continues to make vital records like Tarpaper Sky (2014) and The Chicago Sessions (2023).
