Pet Crow Single Launch, Dubrek Studios, Derby - 15th November 2019

Boarder from Leicester: Young band inventive enough to overcome their limitations, showing great promise with fuzzy garage punk.
Nervous Twitch from Leeds: Garage surf, Ramones, quirky girl song humour. Liked what they are about just a bit clunky at times. But enjoyed them.
Pet Crow Derby: 3rd time Ive seen them and they keep getting better. 1st time in hometown Derby. Inventive, tight rythmic, indie post punk. They always have fun on stage, relaxed and not too serious, but do their jobs. I couldnt stand still - Pet Crow are movers to watch.
Sound was good for all bands and a good atmosphere for all of them.
Dubrek Studios - what a find and a little jewel. Deserves support from music fans of Derby. Food limited to two dishes, but it is excellent and sells out quickly. Worth the car journey from Coventry and the snotty drive home. Great gig, great little and I mean little, venue but with a warm heart.

Artist Bio

Adulting, as it is now called, is not always an easy thing to wrap your head around, never mind do! Derby based garage-pop post-punkers Pet Crow explore the struggles of modern life on second album Take the Edge Off.

This is another tricky second album, but not in the classic sense. It is a work of catharsis, an expression of personal problems and mental health issues experienced throughout a turbulent time for the band. Anxiety, depression, drug addiction, recovery, OCD, ADHD are all tackled, speaking from direct experience.

‘Insomnia’ is a pacey garage-punk banger about trying to sleep and the flipside of trying to stay awake during the day after no sleep - the balance of modern life. Culminating in a rousing crescendo and layered vocal harmonies, Danielle Ross offer the refrain, “No energy left, I’ve got bags for days.”

‘What We Doin’?’ blasts forth, taking on stagnation and a lack of focus that can render you inactive. Throughout their blend of tight funky rhythms, punk riffage and surf rock party vibes make for an enthralling listen that urges everything to be better.

Like debut record A Simple Guide to Small and Medium Pondlife, and the Too Pure 7” single ‘How are you Wired?’, the dark subject matter is contradicted by a backbone of wildly upbeat, head-nodinducing party tunes. Pet Crow believe you can dance and sing your way through your problems. They want you to join them!

Some nice people said these nice things:

Off kilter vocals grind against spidery guitar lines whilst a big bastard rhythm section pummel your ear drums in the most glorious way imaginable. Christ. I think I’m in Love! ” - God is in the TV Zine

Fun, Frenetic and full of verve” - Upset Magazine

This LP will likely gatecrash playlists for a long time… Already in ‘Addiction’ mode.” - New Noise Magazine
