About Penguin Cafe

Founded in 2009, Penguin Café is the ensemble led by composer Arthur Jeffes, son of the late Simon Jeffes, founder of the beloved Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Continuing and reimagining that legacy, the group is a rotating collective of gifted musicians whose ranks have included Neil Codling of Suede and Cass Browne of Gorillaz. Their sound is joyfully hard to pin down, weaving folk, jazz, pop and chamber music together, with classical strings sitting happily alongside ukuleles, harmoniums and piano.

Across a run of acclaimed albums — A Matter of Life... (2011), The Red Book (2014), The Imperfect Sea (2017), Handfuls of Night (2019) and Rain Before Seven... (2023) — Penguin Café have honed a style that is warm, playful and quietly cinematic. On stage they bring those richly textured arrangements to life, mixing original compositions with cherished Penguin Cafe Orchestra favourites for a live experience that feels both intimate and expansive.
