Few bands have shaped heavy metal as profoundly as Megadeth. Founded in 1983 by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Dave Mustaine, the band swiftly became one of thrash metal's revered "Big Four" alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax, building a devoted global following on the strength of their ferocious riffs, technical firepower and razor-sharp lyrics.
Across four decades they have delivered a run of genre-defining records, from the platinum-selling Peace Sells… But Who's Buying? (1986) and Rust in Peace (1990) to the double-platinum Countdown to Extinction (1992), notching nine top ten albums on the US Billboard 200 along the way. Dystopia (2016) earned them a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, and they kept the intensity soaring with The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead! (2022). Their self-titled album (2026) topped both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Rock and Metal Albums Chart. On stage, Megadeth remain a commanding live force with few equals in metal.
