MARKETPLACE are a five-piece indie-pop band from Hartlepool. Their line-up includes Evie Rhodes (vocals/guitar), Joel O’Beirne (vocals/bass), Jack Purcell (guitar), Matthew Short (synth/vocals) and Ross Dixon (drums). Drawing inspiration from the jangly charm of acts like Alvvays, the quirky energy of Declan McKenna and the art-pop sensibility of Talking Heads, they create a sound built on chiming guitars, warm vocals and a sunny, upbeat sense of melody.
MARKETPLACE released their debut EP MARKETPLACE HAVE MADE AN EP! on 4 October 2024, a record that captured the band’s bright, energetic style while hinting at deeper emotional undercurrents. Since then, they have played headline shows and toured across the UK in 2025 — including spots at The Great Escape Festival and Y Not Festival — with support slots for bands such as Alfie Templeman, Swim Deep and The Lottery Winners.
