About Lang Lang

Born in Shenyang, China, Lang Lang began playing the piano at the age of three and gave his first public recital before he turned five. He entered Beijing's Central Music Conservatory at nine, won First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians at 13, and went on to study with the legendary Gary Graffman at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. His big break came at 17, when he stepped in for André Watts at the Gala of the Century, performing Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Christoph Eschenbach and becoming an overnight sensation.

Since then, Lang Lang has played sold-out concerts across the globe and worked with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Gustavo Dudamel and Daniel Barenboim. Never one to stay in a single lane, he has crossed genres to perform at the Grammy Awards alongside Metallica, Pharrell Williams and jazz legend Herbie Hancock. A dedicated educator, he founded the Lang Lang International Music Foundation in 2008 and was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2013.
