Kalandra are the Oslo quartet spinning darkly cinematic Nordic folk-rock from haunting vocals, gritty guitars and ethereal, otherworldly melodies.
Formed in Oslo in 2011, Kalandra are a Norwegian quartet who have spent well over a decade shaping one of Scandinavia's most distinctive sounds. Led by the enchanting voice of Katrine Stenbekk and built around twin guitars and Oskar Johnsen Rydh's expansive percussion, they weave melancholic Nordic folk, gritty guitars and ethereal melodies into landscapes that feel at once ancient and thoroughly modern — otherworldly, cinematic and rooted in raw emotion.
A haunting cover of Wardruna's "Helvegen" first brought them to wider attention, leading to a deal with By Norse Music and their assured debut album The Line (2020). They went on to compose for the HBO Nordic series Beforeigners and the video game soundtrack Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands, before the majestic A Frame of Mind (2024) and the wintry Mørketid EP confirmed their rise. Along the way they have shared stages with Leprous, Wardruna, Heilung and Eivør, appeared at festivals including Hellfest and Midgardsblot, and headlined Oslo's storied Rockefeller. With a devoted international following and a reputation for spellbinding live shows, Kalandra remain one of Norway's most compelling acts.
