Jonathan Van Ness (born 28 March 1987 in Quincy, Illinois) is an American television personality, hairstylist, comedian, author and podcast host best known for his role as grooming expert on Queer Eye. Continuously redefining what it means to be a public figure, he blends flamboyance, empathy and intellectual curiosity with an infectious sense of joy and acceptance. After training at the Aveda Institute and working in salons, Van Ness rose to prominence through the web series Gay of Thrones and his deeply personal podcast Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness.
On the personal front, Van Ness has candidly spoken about his experiences with childhood trauma, addiction, his HIV-positive status and his non-binary identity (using he/him pronouns though comfortable with she/her/they as well). His work succeeds in breaking down stigma, promoting self-love and building inclusive visibility. He is also a New York Times best-selling author with books such as Over the Top: A Raw Journey to Self-Love and Love That Story: Observations from a Gorgeously Queer Life.
