Jakob is a post-rock band from Napier, New Zealand, known for their atmospheric soundscapes and intricate instrumental compositions. Formed in 1998, the trio consists of Jeff Boyle (guitar), Maurice Beckett (bass), and Jason Johnston (drums). Jakob’s music is characterized by expansive, layered guitar work, dynamic shifts, and emotionally charged melodies, creating immersive soundscapes without the need for vocals.
The band gained a strong following in the post-rock community with the release of albums like Subsets of Sets (2001), Cale (2005), and Solace (2006), each praised for their delicate balance of serene atmospheres and powerful crescendos. After a long hiatus due to injuries, Jakob returned with Sines (2014), which was met with critical acclaim for its lush, cinematic sound and intense emotional depth.
