Since forming in Italy in 2007, Fleshgod Apocalypse have become one of the leading lights of symphonic death metal. Their sound is a thrilling clash of opposites: ferocious, technically dazzling extreme metal wrapped in grand orchestral arrangements, piano and the soaring soprano of Veronica Bordacchini. After introducing themselves with debut album Oracles (2009) and the Mafia EP (2010), they made their breakthrough with Agony (2011), then went bigger still on Labyrinth (2013), a concept record drawing on the ancient myth of Knossos, and King (2016), which fans still hold up as a high point. Veleno (2019) followed, before Opera (2024), a ten-act record that pays heartfelt tribute to Italy's great operatic tradition.
UK metal fans know them well. They've headlined their own UK tours, joined Kataklysm on a UK and Ireland run, and topped the Sophie Lancaster Stage at Bloodstock in 2015. On stage, they bring all of that drama to life with a grand, theatrical show that's as much about spectacle as it is about speed and precision – a must for anyone who likes their metal on an epic scale.
