Formed in Crawley, West Sussex in 1976, The Cure have grown from post-punk newcomers into one of Britain’s most influential rock bands. At the heart of the group is frontman Robert Smith—the one constant through decades of line-up changes—whose songwriting, distinctive voice and visual presence have shaped the band’s enduring identity.
Their early releases, like Three Imaginary Boys (1979) and Seventeen Seconds (1980), developed a moody, minimalist sound, while albums such as Disintegration (1989) and Wish (1992) brought grandeur, melancholy and mainstream impact. Their 2024 record Songs of a Lost World became their first UK No 1 album in over three decades. The Cure are celebrated for their ability to blend darkness and pop, introspection and sweep—making them timeless architects of alternative rock.
