About True Mountain Laurel

True Mountain Laurel is the duo project of Vancouver singer-songwriters Haley Blais and Sam Lynch — two friends and respected solo artists who came together over late-night harmonies and shared voice memos. Their debut album, Angel So Bad (Birthday Cake Records), swaps the intensity of their solo work for something gentler: tender, dust-swept folk-country built on acoustic guitars, brushed drums and pedal steel. Songs like "East of Anything", the first they wrote together, show two distinctive voices settling into easy common ground.

Both arrive with real pedigree. Blais earned a Polaris Music Prize longlisting for her album Wisecrack (2023), while Lynch's records Little Disappearance (2020) and Outline (2024) won her a devoted following and a Western Canadian Music Award. Drawing on Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams and early-2000s Canadian songwriting, the pair trade wit and warmth in equal measure. Live, it's an intimate, unshowy affair — just two friends singing the truth as they feel it, harmonies front and centre.
