Tom Jobim Centenary w/ Will Santt
The Jazz Cafe, London
Doors at 18:30 | Ends: 22:00
Bossa nova emerged in Brazil in the late 1950s, slowing samba down and blending it with jazz harmonies and soft, close-to-the-mic vocals. Tom Jobim was its chief songwriter, and his music carried the sound around the world. "The Girl from Ipanema" became a global hit through Stan Getz and João Gilberto's Getz/Gilberto (1964), which won Album of the Year at the Grammys, while "Águas de Março" was later named the greatest Brazilian song of all time in a poll of the country's journalists and musicians.
Will Santt fell for bossa nova as a child, after stumbling across a video of Jobim and Elis Regina singing "Águas de Março". A self-taught guitarist, the São Paulo singer-songwriter first found an audience online with his stripped-back takes on the classics, before releasing his debut album Meu Caminho (2023) and a live record captured at São Paulo's Blue Note. He has shared a stage with bossa nova pioneer Roberto Menescal and toured Europe several times, including a show at London's Jazz Cafe. Expect an intimate evening of voice and guitar, with Jobim's songs given the gentle, unhurried treatment they deserve.
The event is taking place at The Jazz Cafe, London. See individual listings for full venue details.
Tickets go on sale on Thursday 29th October 2026 at 10:00am.
