British country duo The Shires are just about to release their exciting new album My Universe. Released in October of 2016, the new material will no doubt be yet another example of just why they are such leaders in their field.
The band unites Crissie Rhodes who cut her teeth playing various pubs, clubs and weddings with Ben Earle who had previously found some success as a solo artist. Earle had been writing for ten years previous to meeting Rhodes through Facebook having looking for a partner with a post entitled “There must be a country singer somewhere” to which she responded.
The pair’s first single was entitled Nashville Grey Skies and was released in 2014. It was immediately picked up Bob Harris and received prominent airplay on his BBC Radio 2 Country Show. The song takes influence from the epicentre of country Nashville and blends styles from both Britain and America. The song was featured on their debut album named Brave. Released in 2015, the album rose to #10 in the UK album charts and has subsequently been certified Silver.
Their rise to the top has certainly not gone unnoticed having won Horizon Act Of The Year at the 2014 British Country Music Association awards. Then, in the following year they took home Album Of The Year and Entertainer Of The Year at the same awards, with Earle singled out for Male Vocalist Of The Year.
