The Saints are widely regarded as one of the pioneering bands of punk rock, emerging from Brisbane, Australia, in 1973 with a raw and uncompromising sound that predated the explosion of the UK punk scene. Fronted by Chris Bailey, alongside guitarist Ed Kuepper and drummer Ivor Hay, the band made history with their debut single "I’m Stranded" (1976), a blistering track that caught the attention of the British music press and set them apart as true innovators of the genre. Their debut album, (I’m) Stranded (1977), cemented their status as a force to be reckoned with, blending high-energy rock with sharp lyricism and a rebellious attitude.
Between 1973 and 1978, The Saints released three albums, including Eternally Yours (1978) and Prehistoric Sounds (1978), which saw them incorporating elements of jazz and R&B into their punk foundations. Despite their influence, the band remained outsiders in the mainstream punk movement, carving their own path with a fiercely independent spirit. The original lineup disbanded in 1978, but their early work remains essential listening, shaping the sound of punk and alternative music for generations to come.
