The Academic are one of Ireland’s most exciting indie rock bands, known for their infectious melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and electrifying live shows. Formed in Mullingar, this four-piece group—Craig Fitzgerald, Dean Gavin, and brothers Stephen and Matt Murtagh—burst onto the scene with their 2018 debut album Tales From The Backseat. The record topped the Irish charts and gained international acclaim for its anthemic choruses and sharp storytelling, drawing fans from across the UK, Europe, and North America.

Since their breakout, The Academic have built a loyal fanbase through a string of critically acclaimed releases, including Acting My Age (2020), Community Spirit (2021), and their second album, Sitting Pretty. Their music, which blends nostalgic guitar hooks with modern indie vibes, has earned them high-profile tours supporting The Killers, Noel Gallagher, and The Rolling Stones.
