New York City's experimental rockers Swans bring their 'To Be Kind' World Tour to the UK in the spring with a London date set for 21st May.
Their infamous and mighty live performance has been described by the Guardian as ‘a magnificent achievement’, by The Quietus, as ‘a revelation’ and by NME as ‘colossal’, and in the surroundings of the historic Roundhouse, the event promises to show it at its most intense.
They round off an incredible year which has seen the release of their critically acclaimed album, To Be Kind, with a remastered edition of their debut studio album, Filth, out 27 October. Filth, released in 1983, was recently described by Clash magazine as ‘a brutally exhaustive work swimming in a thematic pool of audacious abjection’ and by The Village Voice as ‘no wave with five years of practice, too messy for mysticism and too funny for suicide.’
The American post-punk sextet were originally active from 1982 to 1997 before the group reunited in 2010. Over the year's the band's line-up has changed considerably with around 20 different members over Swan's career, with the only consistent members to date being original songwriter Michael Gira and Norman Westberg.
Swans currently are Swans are Michael Gira, Norman Westberg, Christoph Hahn, Phil Puleo, Thor Harris and Christopher Pravdica.
The group had released a total of ten studio albums before their split in 1997 and since their revival in 2010 have released three further albums, the latest being 2014's 'To Be Kind'.
