SUNN O))) formed in Los Angeles in 1998 as a radical synthesis of drone, noise, metal, minimalism and amplified physical sound. At its core are founders Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson, whose partnership has remained the axis of the project while a vast constellation of collaborators has orbited their evolving sonic universe. From the seismic impact of The Grimmrobe Demos (1999) and ØØ Void (2000) onwards, SUNN O))) redefined the possibilities of guitar music, forging connections between metal, contemporary composition, jazz and experimental sound while remaining devoted to the eternal principles of volume, density and weight.

Over the decades, landmark works including White1, White2, Black One, Monoliths & Dimensions, Life Metal, Pyroclasts and Metta, Benevolence have expanded their immersive aesthetic, alongside celebrated collaborations with artists such as Boris, Scott Walker, Ulver, Nurse With Wound and Hildur Guðnadóttir. Equally renowned for their live performances, SUNN O))) transform spaces into resonant chambers of spectral harmonics, fog and glacial maximalism, appearing everywhere from underground venues to major concert halls and international arts festivals. As both a duo and an expanded ensemble, O’Malley and Anderson continue their relentless exploration of sound’s physical and philosophical dimensions, creating experiences that are as elemental as they are transcendent.
